I’m starting an aquarium again after a short break. I’ve been in this hobby for decades, so it’s something that’s always been part of my daily life. Because of an apartment renovation, I had to give up my previous tank, and what I thought would be a short pause turned into about six months without one.

During that time, I noticed how much I missed it. Not in a dramatic way, but in the small, everyday moments. Having an aquarium brings a certain calm to the room, and I’ve grown very used to that over the years.

Now it’s time to start again.

I live in Finland, and space is a bit limited, so this aquarium will be around 50 liters, which is a little over 13 US gallons. It’s not a large tank, but that’s part of the idea. I want to keep it simple and carefully planned, choosing each element with a purpose.

After all this time, I know that the process is just as important as the end result. Building it step by step, adjusting things, and watching it slowly come together—that’s what makes this hobby so enjoyable.

It feels good to start again.
